market. The plant utilizes a suction dredge, dial split for sand products
and computerized controls at Velie Road

Dutchess County is Growing ! As a result of this growth many of our school districts, colleges and hospitals are planning new buildings or expansions. At the same time, we are running out of the key materials necessary to support our needs. Three of the four mines in the Northern Dutchess area will be closing this year. The availability of our basic construction materials, sand & gravel, is being lost through use and local legislation. To look outside Dutchess County for building materials will affect all of us now and in the future. There is a sad irony in our current legislative behavior. The very people who are anti-mining are often the same people who take great care in protecting the financial future of their families. Yet, they hurt the financial well being of their own community by ignoring the natural resources that can provide materials and jobs. Local money spent outside our area robs our community of dollars that could improve our neighborhoods. Dutchess County has it's own resources! Let's think long and hard now about how we want to manage our resources. Remember: If it isn't grown, it comes from a mine.
